1993 was a big year for pleasant company. I know that there are Felicity dolls from 1993 that were made in Germany, and others from the same year from China. I don't know much about the Hungary thing, so I'll leave that to someone else.

Kirsten's stories take place in 1854
Samantha's stories take place in 1904
Molly's stories take place in 1944

they were the original 3, as i am sure you have figured out!

Welcome to the board!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">LOL, I guess they had the clothes made in China LONG before the dolls!

One of my Sam outfits (I think her Meet Dress) says it was made in Hungary.

AG and PC seem to be all over the place with the clothes. I think they're mostly made in China now?

We do also know that some dolls were made in the USA for a *very* brief time.

I really don't think ANY collector knows everything there is to know about AG's manufactering, there's just too much, and they seem to have changed places a number of times.

the clothes were ALWAYS made in China except for a brief holiday rush when they made the dresses by hand (quoted in an article about Pleasant that was posted here at one point)and I think doll production moved to China around 1993 because there are first run Addys with dresses tagged Made in China.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">So we may never know when a doll was made, unless she has a body tag? Hmmmm... I wanted to know when and where my red-haired Felicity was made.

First off, welcome to the board

Pleasant Company first started sending out catalogues in 1986.

Samantha, Kirsten, and Molly were the only girls in those first catalogues.

These are the only ones ever produced with the white bodies. It's generally accepted that they started making ALL the dolls with tan bodies once Felicity came out, with her lower cut dresses. However, many people here (and elsewhere) have dolls pre-Felicity with tan bodies.

1991 brought Felicity, 1994 Addy, 1997 Josefina, 2000 Kit, and 2002 Kaya.

I think the dolls were created in Germany until after Addy's release, as there are German Addy dolls. They are now made in China.

1995 was the start of the American Girl of Today dolls.

2004 started off the friend dolls with Nellie, and then last year Elizabeth.

Any other questions can *definitely* be answered here, this board is filled with incredibly knowledgable people!

The first 3 dolls were released at the same time, Kirsten, Samantha and Molly. I believe the year was 1986. I am not sure how long they were made in Germany/with white bodies. When the dolls first came out, they only had 3 stories and not many accessories or outfits.

After the 3 girls, came Felicity, then Addy. Someone else will know more specifics and stuff that I do. Many things have changed since Pleasant Company was sold to Mattel. The quality, designs, face/hair on the dolls, etc. There's lots of fans here of the PM quality, but this is about all I know for now.
